Hip Hop Congress Conference

Saturday’s main programming takes place at MusicLandria from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The day will also raise funds for MusicLandria, a community space for drumming and beatmaking that supports access to music/instruments and creativity. A $10 donation is suggested.

The day opens with a Land Acknowledgement and song by Richie Ledreagle, followed by a keynote and interactive workshop led by Miss Marianna Sousa, “Decolonizing Hip Hop" The session examines how colonial systems, patriarchy, and commercialization have influenced some representations of women and girls in Hip Hop media. Participants will consider how repeated messages about gender, identity, relationships, and power can affect young people while recognizing Hip Hop’s history as a vehicle for resistance and storytelling. Topics include media literacy, gender equity, child development, race, and strategies for creating healthier cultural narratives.

Following lunch, an educators panel will feature Jamier Sale, Mecca Don and other guests.
